Cracking of the Mask : Alexander Green and Petrova Green, Maria
Everything had been planned and executed to perfection. Where was the satisfaction, then? Why was happiness always so elusive?
Zenon McClow, a businessman with a checkered past, flees the United States, hiding first in Ecuador and then in the tropical paradise of New Caledonia. Plagued by burning existential questions, he begins to write down his life story while on the remote Isle of Pines. After failing to find relief, he turns to penning The Mask, a historical novel set in the mysterious land of ancient Thrace.Zenon’s fiction endeavor is inspired by Evmondia, a kind-hearted Bulgarian girl living in New York who introduced him to the colorful world of the Thracians. He bases his story on events from the 4th century BCE, a time when Philip II of Macedonia, the father of Alexander ‘the Great,’ endangered Thrace. In Zenon’s tale, a young Greek scholar, Trysimachus, sets out on a perilous quest to the court of the Thracian king Ketriporis. As Trysimachus is forced to confront his own prejudices and fears, Ketriporis must deal with the increasing threats to his rule…
Beset by perils of his own—amidst ill health—Zenon re-examines The Mask, convinced it contains clues to help him resolve his troubled past. What will The Mask reveal to Zenon?
An epic tale of adventure, battles, and political intrigues—but also of self-discovery, transformation, and personal healing—Cracking of the Mask brings together two worlds and two eras that, at first glance, have little in common. Readers will experience the revival of an intriguing ancient culture as they embark on a journey in which they will face the everlasting conflict between our personas and who we are beneath the masks.

Straight Shot : Jack Lively
The town is called Alencourt, it’s in France, and Tom Keeler’s mother used to spend her summers there as a kid. Which is why he takes the train to Alencourt after receiving his discharge from the US Air Force. Maybe he’ll meet a relative, or someone who knew his mom. But, it doesn’t exactly work out like that, he’s in town for less than an hour and three men try to kill him. Nice place, nice try.
Keeler’s not too bothered by the attempted murder, he’s more interested in his mom’s elderly cousin Simone, still living in the family house where she takes care of her sick husband Gilles. Turns out, Gilles hasn’t recovered from being attacked recently by local troublemakers.
It’s a sad story, but not really Tom Keeler’s business. He could just walk away, get back on the train and go south, maybe to Spain, hit the beach for the winter and take it from there. But he finds himself drawn him back to Alencourt. Perhaps it’s the beautiful French policewoman, Cecile Nazari, who informs Keeler that the attack on him was a case of mistaken identity. Or maybe, it’s the fact that the people who attacked him might be the same people who attacked his cousin Gilles, leaving him with permanent brain damage.
Or maybe it’s the connection Keeler finds between these attacks and reports of asylum seeking girls from the Middle East going missing in the area.
Whatever the reason, Tom Keeler becomes interested in the situation, which isn’t great news for the bad people preying on the weak and defenseless. They thought they could get away with it, but they never counted on coming up against Keeler.
If you enjoy Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp, and Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne, you won’t be able to put down the compulsively addictive Tom Keeler series by Jack Lively.

Just Another Meat-Eating Dirtbag : Michael Anthony
A rough-and-tumble Iraq War veteran is young and in love, and the last thing on his mind is food and the ethics of eating meat. But when his girlfriend becomes a vegetarian and animal rights activist, suddenly food is all he thinks about.
A true story of how love and vegetarianism can triumph over all else. Love, heartache, and the rest of the ingredients that make a reader laugh, smile, stop-and-think, are all found in this enthralling graphic memoir. Amidst the stories of love and frustration, there are treatises on food, vegetarianism, and the ethics of the animal rights movement (some of it juxtaposed against Michael’s graphic wartime experiences). Told with Michael’s sardonic perspective and the delightful artwork of debut graphic novelist Chai Simone, this is a journey of true love gone temporarily astray.
